Swimming Pool

At the time of its construction 14 years ago, the exquisite pool was the biggest underground facility of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Today, it remains one of Australia’s most alluring indoor pool facilities.

Its simple rectangular lines sit elegantly beneath a magnificent domed ceiling that resembles a brilliant Southern Hemisphere sky filled with twinkling stars – a fibre optic display that captures the vast openness of the Australian sky. The configuration of the stars has been based on old astronomy charts for the month of November.

There are hundreds of stars of four different sizes. A fibre optic tube links these. A plate, which sits between the light and fibre optic nest, creates the twinkling – heat causes it to rotate and create the flickering effect.

Dimensions:
The pool is 20 metres by 6 metres. It has a maximum depth of 1.8metres and a minimum depth of 1.2 metres.

Water Capacity:
It contains 275,000 litres of water.

Water Quality Maintenance:
Its pH levels are controlled with hydrochloric acid levels in the ratio of 2 parts per million. The entire water volume is turned over through the filtration system every 4 hours ensuring crystal clear water at all times.

It has a wet edge design with a balance tank to capture water displaced on entry. A small bleed-off is maintained to prevent water stagnation.

The water temperature is 29 degrees. This comfortable temperature is generated through an eco-friendly heating system that utilises waste heat from the hotel's air conditioning system. This means that additional energy is not drawn upon to maintain the heating of the pool throughout the year.

The colours in the pool area are subtle with emphasis on sandstone. The inner pool is finished using glass tiles from Mexico in four shades of aqua and blue.

Solid teak lounge chairs from Indonesia are located around the pool deck area for the comfort of guests.

The pool area is separated from other amenities in the Day Spa and Health and Leisure Club to ensure privacy, peace and quiet.

An aboriginal painting called "Water Dreaming" inspired the interiors of the Spa area. The colours and tones of the palette are taken from the original painting and elsewhere its forms are echoed on the glass shower screen doors and in the hand-made original rug which is located at the entrance to the Day Spa and Health and Leisure Club.
